The Things I Haven’t Told You

Six Teenagers. A Million Problems. One Mystery. New BBC Three Drama

A message from big fan Ash

Hey guys. I’m trying to organise a campaign for The Things I Haven’t Told You to get commisioned for a full-series, but I need YOUR help to do it. I need everybody’s help. So please do this.

My idea is for everyone who enjoyed the pilot episode to send a letter, card or postcard to the head of BBC3 with the message
“Aisling Hunter has been killed, but the town of Seafort Hill lives on. Please commision a full series of The Things I Haven’t Told You”.
Then write your name and where you are from.
The address to send it to is:

The latest, and arguably most anticipated, of BBC Three’s drama pilots arrives on Monday. The Things I Haven’t Told You - a dark, heavily mysterious teen drama - follows the events before and after the suspicious death of troubled 16-year-old Aisling Hunter. But who was responsible for her demise? And what secrets was she hiding? Seriously intrigued, we tracked down star Ryan Sampson to find out more.

So, what’s it all about then?
“Well exactly! Funnily enough, we really didn’t know ourselves for quite a long way into it. In rehearsals we only got told the bits that we were doing! It’s centred around the mysterious death of this girl Aisling Hunter, and how that reverberates through the people that are around her.”

Have you seen the finished version yet?
“I have, yeah. I really liked it. It was interesting Read the rest of this entry »

What a thrill: Sophie Loftus is on BBC Three on Monday
What a thrill: Sophie Loftus is on BBC Three on Monday

A budding actress from Barnet is appearing in a teen thriller to be shown on the recently revamped BBC Three.

Sophie Loftus, 17, of Old Fold Lane, plays a “stereotypical geek” in her TV debut, which has been dubbed the BBC’s version of Channel 4 hit Skins.

The Things I Haven’t Told You, also starring Andrew Lincoln, is set in a school sixth-form, where every student has a hidden secret.

Sophie, who is studying for a BTEC in acting at Westminster Kingsway College, said: “It has been nicely challenging and I couldn’t have wished for a better first professional job.

“I really liked the experience, BBC Three is really experimental which made it more fun, and the whole crew and cast were amazing. I have learnt a lot from everyone.

“My friends have been really supportive and it will be nice to see their reaction to it.”

Aisling (Elizabeth Day, left) and Geri (Nathalie Lunghi) strike up an unlikely friendship

Aisling (Elizabeth Day, left) and Geri (Nathalie Lunghi) strike up an unlikely friendship

Everyone has secrets – the things they don’t want anyone to know…

Aisling Hunter is ordinary. Not beautiful, not special – just another girl in the crowd wishing she was anyone else, anywhere else. Geri West is the opposite – glamorous, confident and popular. Oh, and she’s a malicious bitch. So when the two strike up a friendship it’s a mystery to everyone.

Blackmail, it seems, can be very bonding, and if Aisling keeps Geri’s secret, she wants something in return. Geri might just have the key to Aisling’s own mystery – the whereabouts of her missing mum.

But just as it looks like she might be close to the truth, Aisling is run over in a bizarre car crash. The car is stolen, contains a mysterious stranger and is on an unlit road. Was the crash deliberate or an accident?

The Things I Haven’t Told You is a mystery by 26-year-old writer Lisa McGee, directed by Marcal Fores (26) and set in a school where every student has a dark secret. It stars newcomer Elizabeth Day as Aisling, Nathalie Lunghi (Layer Cake) as Geri and Andrew Lincoln (Teachers) as DC Rae.

If that hasn’t whetted your appetite, then I got news for you, you’re dead!

Things.jpgFor me BBC Three has gone from one of worst, rank-bad channels out there to something that’s actually worth watching. I don’t know what’s going on. Fair play… something needed to be done and now someone has done something about it. Next up – after we’ve had the likes of Phoo Action, Being Human, Lily Allen et al – is The Things I Haven’t Told You, which, it seems to me, is the channel’s very own version of Skins. It’s written by and directed by 26-year-olds and boasts Andrew Lincoln as a cast member.

It’s the tale of six teenagers whose lives get very complicated when one of them is involved in a ‘mysterious’ car crash. It’s described as: “a drama about the strangeness, excitement and danger of growing up”. Yes, just like Skins. But, unlike the sprawling E4 mess of a show, there does seem to be a linear narrative driving it through.. the mystery of the crash is the crucial element. Look out for it mid-March.
